Baby bottle tooth decay (also known as baby bottle syndrome or nursing bottle caries) is a dental condition characterized by the rapid decay of many or all of a child’s baby teeth. The upper front teeth are most at risk since they erupt first and are exposed to sugars in the bottle for longer periods. The lower front teeth are often protected by the tongue during bottle feeding or breastfeeding.
By the time tooth decay is visible, severe damage may have occurred. Your child may require crowns, pulp therapy, or even extractions. Long-term consequences can include speech problems, psychological issues, crooked teeth, and poor overall oral health.
